What better way to know where your food comes from than by getting it straight from the farmer that grows it? Finding and supporting your local farmers market is an awesome way to get fresh, high quality and nourishing fruits and vegetables for yourself and your family while supporting local businesses and connecting with your community. Many farmers markets contain vendors that also carry specialty foods such as locally made baked goods, condiments, prepared foods and crafts. It is common for farmers markets also accept CalFresh EBT cards as well! If you’re not aware of your local farmers market reach out to some of your neighbors and ask and/or check out one of these websites to get you started:

If you’re a meat eater (and even if you’re not) I’m sure you’ve heard all the hoopla about sourcing of meats. There are plenty of documentaries on the meat industry that highlight the necessity of knowing where your meat comes from so that you can make an informed choice regarding what you choose to feed yourself and your family. Here are some resources below from sources of clean and ethically raised and prepared meat products:

Snake River Farms produces some of the best bacon I’ve ever put in my mouth. It is abosolutely, positively showstopping bacon that I use often, especially when I make my fried cabbage recipe.  Snake River Farms also produces other high quality, ethically raised and clean beef and pork cuts that are worth trying.

U.S. Wellness Meats: I have patronized this company quite a bit and I find the quality of their meats to be superb! The sugar-free bacon, sausage and various types and cuts of meat are delicious and incomparable to anything you can purchase in a supermarket, their prices work out to be more reasonable that some health food stores and they delivery everything to your doorstep nicely packed and frozen!
